Emotional pain has several possible causes, such as loss, failure, rejection, and others. Everyone experiences emotional pain, because it's a part of being alive. The pain can range from uncomfortable to excruciating and heart-wrenching. Fortunately, it often goes away when the situation that cuased it is resolved or it fades with time.

But sometimes emotional pain persists and may even get worse over time. When that happens, it can take an ongoing toll on a person's wellbeing, i.e., their relationships, their career, and even their health. To stop that ongoing toll, the emotional pain needs to be addressed. But how?
